Submariner

Rolex Submariner 5513

Model 5513

The Rolex Submariner first introduced in 1953 was the first wristwatch designed for Scuba diving. The early Submariner models did not feature protective crown guards around the winding crown and did not feature a date. The crown guards were first introduced in 1959 and were present on the Submariner non date model 5512. This Submariner model 5512 ceased production in the early 1970s.

The first Submariner with the date feature was Model 1680 and this model was launched in 1966. In 1974 the Submariner model 1680 was available with all white text printed on the dial. In certain world markets the Submariner dial was available with the word Submariner printed in red up until 1980. In the early 1980s the Submariner model 1680 was renumbered 16800.
